Seafood Restaurants in Cebu: Tuna and More at Orange Karenderia
One of the most successful restaurants that emerged in Cebu in the past year is Orange Karenderia. Orange Karenderia specializes in seafood dishes specifically tuna. I always love seafood and I really enjoy eating here as I can order parts of the tuna that are not usually served in other restaurants like the bihod (eggs), bagaybay(gonads), and buntot (tail). The restaurant is not all about tuna as it serves many other delicious dishes.
Orange Karenderia looks like your typical canteen with some industrial chic flair. They have blackboards listing their popular items.
A few Sundays ago, I told my wife that we will have dinner there so that we can visit Regina Acompanado (one of my former Property Associates with Robinsons Homes) who happened to be the Operations Manager in their Lahug Branch. Regina told me that we should come earlier as the place will be packed past 6 p.m. I was planning to eat just 2 dishes then. When we arrived at Orange Karenderia, I saw +Carl Trocio, the best man of my wedding. He was there with his wife Pippin and a friend. We ended sharing a table with them and I became a willing participant of a feast. Here are the dishes that we ate that day:
Calamares - The fried battered squid is one of my appetizers of choice. The fried calamari will always go well some Tartar Sauce. At Orange Karenderia, the Calamares was crispy and seasoned very well.
Fried Tuna Bihod - I really do not mind eating bihod or fish eggs. The eggs are really flavorful and it could usually taste really salty. I was surprised that my wife tried eating a slice. She did not find it too unusual.
Garlic Chicken - According to Regina, one of their top selling offerings is the Garlic Chicken. The soy-glazed fried chicken is topped with lots of fried garlic. It is the type of dish that will make you eat a lot of rice. For that dinner, I ate at least two cups of rice and I could have more because the dishes that we ordered were really savory.
Crispy Buntot - The crispy-fried Tuna tail is Orange Karenderia's "Crispy Pata". It is sinfully good. The skin is crispy. The meat is tasty. The litid or ligaments could make you think that you are not eating a fish.
Lechon Flan - To cap a fine early dinner, Regina gave us some delicious leche flan. It is a perfect dessert after enjoying a really belly-busting meal.
It was supposed to be a simple Sunday dinner, but it turned out to become one really filling reunion dinner. I had a great time eating and talking to old friends and Carl and his wife +Stephanie Grace A. Trocio even paid for it. I am really thankful to them and to Regina in giving us a great meal and loads of things to write and talk about. My wife thoroughly enjoyed Orange Karenderia.
Orange Karenderia is the type of place that you can bring friends from out of town for a food trip. If someone I know will crave for some Tuna, I will definitely point them to this restaurant. It is one of the places that being full or busog is guaranteed.
3 Good Things about Orange Karenderia
Tuna - Orange Karenderia is probably the best place to have tuna in Cebu or in Bacolod.
Price - The place gives you some restaurant quality dishes at a price that is a shade above karenderia prices. Yuppies could easily afford to eat at this place.
Location - Their branches are easy to find and have some ample parking space. Orange Karenderia branches are located at M.L. Quezon Avenue Mandaue City, La Guardia Street corner Salinas Drive Lahug Cebu City, and 22nd Lacson Street in Bacolod City.
